A very special phone call..probably last post before baby comes....and prayer requests..all in one...

This afternoon, I got a very surprising phone call. It was from our children's pediatrician. Our children are so very precious to us as parents. And it blesses our hearts when we watch people care for our children as we would and sometimes maybe even better. To see people truly care for our children and have a heart for them is priceless.
Our children's pediatrician is someone who has gone above and beyond her call as a "doctor" and has loved and cared for our children in an amazing way. She has repeatedly done things for our family that most doctors would not take the time to ever think about doing. You can tell that she truly cares!! When our Jacob was little, he was classified as failure to thrive as he would not gain weight. He had sever reflux and was even hospitalized at 7 months as he had not gained weight in months. When he was hospitalized, it was out of town with a specialist. But our pediatrician called us at the out of town hospital to check up on us when he wasn't even under her care at the time. She gave us her own personal cell phone number to call in case we had any questions or if anything changed. You could tell she truly was concerned.
When they thought our Isaac was possibly blind as an infant, she was right there to encourage us and help us through that time. She was caring more for us at that time that our child. A couple days after we got the news, she called us at home to see how we were handling everything. Praise the Lord...Isaac's sight is just fine. But again...she cared for our family as a whole.
When we went through more than one miscarriage in a row, she was there encouraging us.
When Nathan was born, my csection was scheduled for a day when she was off. But...when she found out it was on her day off, she came in to be the attending pediatrician when he was delivered. What doctor will come in on their day off to deliver one baby. No one these days!. It was a moment I will never forget when she walked in to that OR and announced she was here to save the day. lol. It truly added a special touch to that delivery.
She has gone above and beyond her call as a doc on many occasions, but these are just a few examples.
A few months ago, right after we found out we were having a boy...Nathan was in the doctors office with ear infections. The ped was asking me if we had decided on a name for this next little boy. I told her that at the time we had settled on a first name which was Adam, but were having a hard time deciding on a middle name. She told me we could do what she did and gave her boys her maiden name which was Bryan. Adam Bryan sounded so cute together. I kinda shrugged it off and didn't give it much thought until I got home. It was only maybe a 2 min conversation in the middle of Nathans apt. When my husband asked how Nathans apt went, I shared with him what the ped had said, and he piped up and said he really liked that. We kinda just started calling him Adam Bryan. And it stuck. So in a way...she helped us name this little man. And he will always have a cute story behind his name. At Nathans next appointment, I shared with her what my husband and I had decided, and she told me she was honored at the thought.
So forward to today...I got a phone call from her..totally unexpected. She was calling to ask if my section was still scheduled for this Friday at noon. I told her yes that it was. She is actually working this time and is not off, but has patients scheduled for the time of the c-section. But now the part of the phone call that blew my mind away...she is going to shuffle those patients around and open the time slot of the csection so that she will be the attending pediatrician again. I felt so humbled and honored that she would even want to do that for our family. She truly is one of a kind. A very rare thing to witness these days in the medical profession. And we are so very grateful that the Lord has allowed us to have such a special person to care for our children.
**********************************************************************************

This will most likely be my last post before baby arrives. The c-section is still scheduled for this Friday Sept 4th at 12pm (noon). I will most likely be in the hospital until Monday. I would appreciate every ones prayers for a safe delivery for both baby and myself. The last two sections, I have gotten an infection..not in the incision..but the area around it. It was pretty bad last time. It covered over half my abdomen. It left me in the hospital for 6 days. I would appreciate prayers to remain infection free and a speedy recovery. We will update the blog and facebook as soon as we are settled and well enough...most likely Friday afternoon. You are welcome to come up and see us. anytime from Friday afternoon and thereafter.

Wow, what a great story about your doctor. Thanks for sharing it! It IS wonderful to know we have doctors who truly care...ones that go beyond their "duty".

Let me know details (once you know them) about Friday. I can come as early as you need me. So excited for your family!

We are praying for you and Adam! How exciting to think in just a few short days, you will be holding your precious boy in your arms! I wish we could be there to help with last minute prep, but we have the wonderful stomach flu here amongst the multitudes!!! I look forward to meeting your little one!! Love ya!
