The beginning of a new adventure for our family........

For some time, we have been discussing the idea of raising chickens. Fresh organic eggs, and later the possibility of more chickens for meat...we finally decided to go for it. For me, it was much prayer and research as to what would be best suited for our family. We are excited for the process and are already overjoyed with watching our children just absorb every aspect that has come into play with raising these tiny chicks so far. We have had the majority for a few days now and today just got the last of them. The children are doing great with them. It is going to be a neat experience for our family. The kids have already learned so much, including the little ones. We did quite a bit of research over a couple weeks, and we ended up choosing 4 different kinds of chickens. It has been great watching my husband with the kids and chicks. Today, he built a very large wooden box for them to be in until they are old enough to go in a coop...which he also will be making with the help of our boys I am sure. For now, enjoy some pics of our little friends. We will share more pics of us all with the chicks and building their box here soon in another post. We are having so much fun with them. Cant wait to get the coop started. Enjoy.....

Looks like you got some of the same ones we did! We got some silver laced wyandots, Australorps, and some barred rocks. Once we move into the new house I will order the rest. I am planning on buying Buff Orpingtons,Jersey Giants, and some araconas! We are so excited! We have had chickens one time before and we loved them! They all have their own personalities! Oh if you hold them a lot as chicks they are easier to catch later and they will come greet you every time you go outside! Enjoy your adventure!

I think this is soooo awesome! We want to do this someday, too. Being in the military, it is a "someday" dream for us, as we move so often, and finding a place to do this isn't always feasible. :) I look forward to hearing about how it goes!
