Today we decided to butcher several of our meats birds...8 to be exact. The plan was for both my husband and I to take turns, but he decided that he was a little hesitant to do it, and I was feeling perfectly fine doing the work myself. I was able to get the 8 done in about 2 hours. That is killing, skinning, cutting up, etc. We actually had a great time..at least I did. We had many laughs that is for sure. For you seasoned people, this is probably boring, but for us first timers, it was an experience I will not soon forget. It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. We have many more to butcher over the next couple weeks, and then we plan on ordering another batch to be coming sometime in July. This will allow us to have chicken and broth for months to come. We have fed them organic feed the entire time raising them, and we are excited to see how they turn out. Definitely a process that we will be repeating. Oh, and lease ignore my outfit, as I was trying to rummage through all old clothes and find something that I didnt mind if it go ruined.
First one..yikes....I can do it
peeling the skin off the chicken
Whether it be making the broth or butchering the chickens, I am so thankful. Thankful that I prepare some quality foods to use at later times for our family.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO TOM AND AMANDA SAVAGE FOR GIVING US A CRASH COURSE THE OTHER DAY...thank you sooo very much. It was much easier than I thought it was going to be.

Oh Yay! I'm so glad you were able to do it! I love the smell of the broth cooking! So nummy!
Wow....
I'm totally impressed, totally disturbed, and totally grossed out all at the same time! But mostly impressed!! :) How you did that, I know not. I probably would have had a nervous breakdown. Poor chickie with the wood on his neck. :( LOL, then again, bring on the chicken dinner!! Love eating chicken. Hate thinking about the process. Way to go, what an accomplishment, not many can say that they have done this deed.
Hi Kristi,
You certainly make it look easy! My husband and I did this about 15 years ago; he butchered, and I picked feathers and got the chickens ready for the freezer. We should have skinned them; it would have been much easier, and better in the long run. But it was an experience I have never forgotten!
You will be a pro by the time you are done with all of your chickens.
