Got a call Sunday afternoon...chicks were in. 50 cornish roasters....yummy!!

the little black one is the specialty chick **************************************************** Our other chicks out in the coop (egg layers) they are getting big and doing awesome ******************************************************* Inside the coop

******************************************************

enjoying some treats...

they sure look forward to treats

******************************************************

this is the chicken in question.

looks like a barred rock..but its not

**********************************************************

here it is again with other barred rocks..it is on the left

look at its legs..they are white or greyish

and look at its size...much bigger

*************************************************************

here it is again on the left with a barred rock on the right

completely different leg colors

*********************************************************

*********************************************************

and yet again...

barred rock on left, mystery chicken on right

******************************************************

she is a beauty...going to have a lot of black highlights

****************************************************

***********************************************

curious....

************************************************

looking at what I was doing...

************************************************

eating grass

*****************************************************

very pretty chicken

****************************************************

So, the mystery chick (the free rare one that mcmurray sends), which we orignally thought may just be a barred rock rooster..is not that!! Originally we thought the rare chick was another one, but she now looks just like the other ones. I am thinking this one is either a cuckoo maran or a dominique...actually leaning more towards a dominique. What do you think?

We are having a good adventure with all the chickens. I can wait until they start laying..and the meat ones are old enough to butcher. Thinking about ordering another batch to arrive in late summer for butchering in the fall. I like the idea of knowing all that is going into the meat (chicken at least) that my family will be eating. You cant get a whole rganic fed chicken for as cheap as it costs to raise one. It IS cheaper to feed and raise a chicken for meat organically than it is to go and buy a whole organic chicken.

(SORRY ABOUT THE SPACING. I HAVE FIXED IT A DOZEN OR MORE TIMES AND WHEN I GO TO PREVIEW IT, IT IS STILL ALL MESSED UP..OH WELL)
